Glenn Beck is a Dangerous Man
It’s the beginning of August here in Las Vegas. We’re coming off the 5th hottest July on record, but the desert heat is nothing compared to the seething heat being generated by the Right Wing in response to the health care reform debate raging in D.C. With the Democrats controlling both the House and the Senate, the Republicans find themselves in a less than enviable position when it comes to fighting health care reform.
So, what are the Republicans doing now that they’ve lost the election and have nothing intelligent left to add? They're acting like spoiled little brats. That’s exactly what they’re doing.
They do it in many ways… they call names, they cry, that yell, they pout, they kick their feet.
And now, in their latest act of petulance, they’ve taken to disrupting town hall meetings around the country. Their strategy isn’t to debate the issues at hand, but instead they’re content with disrupting these town halls to the point where no one can get a word in edgewise. Better to yell and scream than to share ideas (especially when you have no ideas to contribute).
But, how did we get to this point? How did we get to a place where people are so easily led into becoming screaming, illogical, fearful stooges? What in the world might cause people to act this way? Well, there are numerous reasons why, but let’s take a look at one of those reasons…
Glenn Beck.
Glenn Beck is a ridiculous “entertainer” who has pushed the boundaries of good taste, not to mention reality, on a regular basis. Just recently, he’s called the President a racist who “hates white people and white culture”. He’s called President Obama a “threat” to our nation. And in perhaps his most ridiculous, childish example of acting out, compared Obama’s presidency to pouring gasoline on us Americans and setting us on fire.
Let me ask you, if someone pours gasoline on you and lights a match, presumably to light you afire, what would be your reasonable response? I know I would do whatever I could to fight that person off, including inflicting bodily harm to that person. What judge would convict you of harming a person who just poured gas all over you and was about to set you on fire?
Exactly.
Glenn Beck likes to create a sense of urgency about defeating this President that leaves you with the sense that anything you do in response would be justified, given the immediate harm the President is about to inflict on you. He’s about to set you on fire!!!!
Then, in a true act of cowardice, after painting this picture of our President as the “flame thrower in chief”, Beck has the gall to tell his followers that violence is not the answer. Really? Just a second ago you were telling me our President is pouring gasoline on us and lighting a match. Now you’re telling me to be calm?
Sorry, but I don’t remain calm when about to be lit on fire. And you know this, Glenn Beck.
As I read earlier this week, it’s akin to yelling “Fire!’ in a crowded movie theater, then whispering that everyone should remain calm on their way out. Sorry, but it doesn’t work that way.
If you want to play the fear-mongering game, then you better be ready to accept the consequences when fear-based violence ensues.
You reap what you sow, Glenn Beck. I’m sure you’ve read that somewhere in your Bible, right?
